As the ancient proverb goes, Guru bina gati nahin. There is no progress without a Guru. Guru is not a person; guru is knowledge. The English word guide comes from the Sanskrit word guru. Guru is one who guides you into wisdom and knowledge and kindles the life force in you. There is an element of guru in every human being. Consciously or unconsciously, whenever you have done something for someone without expecting anything in return, you have played the role of a guru.

This guru tattva is to be revered. When one moves in this principle of guru tattva, all the boundaries drop and one starts feeling in sync with the whole universe. When that wisdom dawns, there is no place for self-blame. If there is self-blame, it means that you have not come to the guru yet. Coming to the guru means having the faith that guru is with us all the time. It means that whatever we want will be done and we will be shown the way.

The best way to ensure peace in your life is to stay close to the guru through sadhana, satsang, reflection and devotion. This will ensure that spirituality strengthens in you. However, even when you cannot be physically close to your master, you can be close in mind and spirit. When there is too much confusion, then surrender to your guru or the Divine. The guru is a reflection of your own true nature and a guide leading you back to your Self.
